Overview
The U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou serves southern China — Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Fujian provinces. Guangzhou is unique among U.S. consular posts in China as the sole facility processing immigrant visas for all of mainland China, making it critical for family reunification, diversity lottery and employment-based immigration. The consulate also handles a large volume of nonimmigrant visas and provides American Citizen Services to the substantial U.S. business community in the Pearl River Delta, one of the world's most productive manufacturing regions. The post moved to a purpose-built facility in Zhujiang New Town in 2013.
Visa Services
Guangzhou is the only U.S. consular post in mainland China that processes immigrant visas — all immigrant visa interviews for Chinese applicants nationwide are conducted here. The consulate also processes nonimmigrant visas for residents of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Fujian. Categories include family-based, employment-based and diversity visas (immigrant) and student, business, tourist and work visas (nonimmigrant).
Consular Services

Trade & Export Support
The U.S. Commercial Service in Guangzhou supports American companies in southern China's massive manufacturing and consumer market. Guangdong province is the source of a significant share of Chinese exports to the United States. Key sectors include electronics, textiles, consumer products, agricultural technology and environmental services. The Commercial Service helps American firms find qualified partners, navigate regulatory requirements and protect intellectual property.
