Overview
The Royal Thai Embassy in Rome (Reale Ambasciata di Thailandia) occupies a villa on Via Nomentana in the Nomentano-Trieste district, a leafy residential area northeast of Rome's historic centre, approximately 2 kilometres from Termini station. The embassy manages Thailand's bilateral relationship with Italy across trade, investment, tourism, culture, and education, and serves as the accredited diplomatic mission for Albania, Libya, Cyprus, San Marino, and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Italy is one of Thailand's most important European tourism markets — approximately 350,000 Italian tourists visit Thailand annually, with particular concentrations in Phuket (where an Italian pensionato community has established itself alongside beach resorts), Koh Samui, Bangkok, and Chiang Mai. From Milan, Thai Airways operates nonstop to Bangkok — useful for travellers in northern Italy.
Visa Services
Italian citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for 60 days. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is mandatory since May 2025. All visa applications must be submitted exclusively online via thaievisa.go.th — passport submission at the embassy is not required. Processing takes up to 14 working days (longer during high season). Apply minimum 15 days before intended arrival but no more than 90 days in advance. Application fees are non-refundable in all cases. The embassy cannot edit personal details after submission. Italian travel document holders (refugees) must obtain a visa before travelling to Thailand.
Consular Services
The consular section provides Thai passport issuance and renewal, Thai national ID card services, civil registration (birth, marriage, divorce, death certificates), document legalisation and notarial acts, power of attorney, military service documentation, and emergency protection services for Thai nationals in distress — all by appointment only. Passport and document collection: 12:00-13:00 weekdays. Phone inquiries: 14:30-17:00 weekdays. The honorary consulates across Italy (Genoa, Milan, Naples, Turin, Venice) provide limited consular assistance and notarial services for Thai nationals in their regions.
Trade & Export Support
Italy is a significant European trade partner for Thailand, with bilateral trade exceeding EUR 5 billion annually. Italian exports to Thailand include machinery, fashion and luxury goods, automotive components, wines and food products, and industrial equipment. Thai exports to Italy encompass electronics, processed food (canned seafood, rice, tropical fruits), rubber, jewellery and gemstones, textiles, and automotive parts. Italy's strengths in fashion, design, and food technology complement Thailand's manufacturing base — several Italian food companies source ingredients from Thailand, and Italian fashion brands utilise Thai textile production. The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok facilitates business networking and bilateral trade events.

Appointment Information
Embassy: Monday to Friday 09:30-17:00. Consular section: 09:30-12:30 (visa and service applications), 12:00-13:00 (passport and document collection), 14:30-17:00 (phone inquiries only). All consular applications require advance appointment. The embassy is closed on Thai royal holidays and Italian public holidays.
