Spanish Embassy in Beijing

Embassy of Spain in Beijing, China

Overview

The Embassy of Spain in Beijing manages bilateral relations with China and is also accredited to Mongolia. Ambassador Marta Betanzos Roig leads a substantial diplomatic mission that includes political, economic, cultural, defence, interior, education, tourism and agricultural sections — reflecting the breadth of the Spain-China relationship. China is one of Spain's largest trading partners in Asia. The embassy is supported by consulates general in Beijing (consular section), Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, covering the entirety of mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.

Visa Services

The consular section at Sanlitun Dong Si Jie 9 handles visa applications for Chinese citizens travelling to Spain (Schengen visa). Spain is part of the Schengen Area, so Spanish visas allow travel across the zone. The visa section email is cog.pekin.vis@maec.es. Appointments are required and must be requested by email.

Consular Services

The consular section provides passport and ID services, civil registration, notarial acts, document legalisation and emergency assistance to Spanish citizens in its consular district. Contact: cog.pekin.nac@maec.es. Hours: Monday to Friday 09:30–14:30. Emergency line for Spanish citizens: +86 139 1146 1886.

Trade & Export Support

Spain exports agricultural products to China — olive oil, wine, pork and Iberian ham are among the highest-profile categories — alongside machinery, vehicles and chemical products. The embassy's commercial section (Oficina Económica y Comercial) supports Spanish exporters and facilitates participation in Chinese trade fairs. Tourism promotion is handled through Turespaña's Beijing office.

Cultural & Educational Programs

Spain's cultural presence in China includes the Instituto Cervantes network (present in Beijing and Shanghai), the Aula Cervantes programme at Chinese universities, and academic exchange agreements. The embassy promotes Spanish cinema, literature, art and the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language — a rapidly growing field in China.

Service Area

The embassy covers all of China and Mongolia. Consular services are divided among four consular posts: the consular section in Beijing (northern and central China), Shanghai (eastern China), Guangzhou (southern China) and Hong Kong (Hong Kong and Macao SAR).
