Overview
The Honorary Consulate of Hungary in Nuremberg is the Franconian consular point of contact for Hungarian nationals and for routine Hungarian consular business in the northern half of Bavaria. The office is on Flughafenstraße 124 in Nuremberg, close to the airport corridor that connects Franconia to Munich and on to the Hungarian border via the A3/A9/M1 motorway axis. The Honorary Consul is Dr. Siegfried Erich Axtmann, appointed by Hungary from among prominent local figures in the Nuremberg business community. As an honorary consulate the office has limited consular authority — it handles authentications and first-line consular guidance — and routes all full consular acts (passports, visas, civil registry, notarial) to the Hungarian Consulate General in Munich, which holds full territorial competence for the entire Free State of Bavaria. The Franconian–Hungarian connection is grounded in industrial and trade history: Nuremberg is the seat of the Bavarian International Automobile Fair cluster and of Siemens' historic electro-technical heritage, with a dense supplier network linking Franconian Mittelstand manufacturers into the Hungarian automotive belt around Győr, Debrecen and Kecskemét. Faber-Castell, Nuremberg's famous pencil dynasty headquartered in nearby Stein, maintains an honorary Brazilian consulate — a reminder that Franconia's industrial families have long operated a parallel network of honorary consular representations.
Consular Services
The Nuremberg office handles authentications and first-line consular guidance for Hungarian nationals and Hungarian-business matters in northern Bavaria. It cannot issue Hungarian passports or visas, register births/marriages/deaths, or perform other consular acts requiring the full authority of a consulate general. For all such matters, Bavarian residents go to the Hungarian Consulate General in Munich, which has full consular authority for the whole of Bavaria.
Service Area
Middle Franconia, Upper Franconia and Lower Franconia (Regierungsbezirke Mittel-, Ober- and Unterfranken) plus the Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz), within the Free State of Bavaria. The jurisdiction covers the four northern Bavarian Regierungsbezirke; the southern half of Bavaria (Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, Swabia) is served directly by the Hungarian Consulate General in Munich. Full consular services for anyone in Franconia or the Upper Palatinate requiring a passport, visa or civil-registry act are provided by the Munich Consulate General regardless of the applicant's city of residence within the honorary consul's jurisdiction.

Public office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 09:00 to 14:00 — two half-days per week, which is typical for honorary consulates run alongside another full-time occupation. Honorary consuls are appointed by the sending state from among prominent local figures and serve in a non-professional capacity alongside their main occupation. The Nuremberg address at Flughafenstraße 124 sits on the northern airport corridor into the city — quick to reach from either the A3 Autobahn or Nuremberg Airport — and is one of roughly a hundred and twenty foreign consular representations present in the Free State of Bavaria, all coordinated through the Bavarian state government's consular corps under the Doyen (currently the Hungarian Consul General in Munich).
