Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana — the southern Indian IT, biotechnology and aerospace cluster. A Bureau de France operates in Hyderabad providing additional reach for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh applicants. France maintains three other Consulates General in India for the rest of the country: Mumbai (western states), Calcutta (eastern and north-eastern states), and Pondicherry (Tamil Nadu plus the southern union territories).
The Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES — France's space agency) maintains an outpost at the Bangalore Consulate General in support of the ISRO-CNES partnership, which dates from 1964 and is one of France's oldest bilateral space cooperation frameworks. Major joint programmes include the Megha-Tropiques satellite (atmospheric science), SARAL-AltiKa (satellite oceanography), the upcoming TRISHNA mission and the substantial joint satellite data-sharing arrangement. Bangalore's role as the Indian space industry capital (ISRO headquarters, U R Rao Satellite Centre and the broader Indian Space Research Organisation operational base) makes this consular outpost a substantive bilateral anchor.
Indian engineering students apply through Campus France India (inde.campusfrance.org) and the Études en France online platform. The Bangalore Consulate General coordinates the Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana catchment of the substantial Indian student flow to French grandes écoles, engineering schools (École Polytechnique, École Centrale, INSA, Mines, Ponts) and universities. The process includes a pre-consular interview at the Consulate General before the formal student visa application; biometric capture is at VFS France Bengaluru and decisioning is at the Consulate General.
